Day 3: Discovering New Things. Dissertation 2527.

Hello again, and welcome to day three. The last 24 hours haven’t been too eventful, I seem to be going further and further into the realms of insanity, mostly tweaking this website (what do you think by the way – compare it to this!) and thinking about dissertations, but getting lost in the internet’s comfy sheets and bosom. I did however manage to go to my first press screening which was very exciting.
However, in fear of not making it to my press screening, I planted about eleven alarms around my room, as I am a notoriously poor sleeper (well, getter-upper). With advice from the site noted yesterday, I got drunk the night before (apparently alcohol disrupts your sleep patterns so can be positively used), made sure my alarms were loud and out of reach, and that I did something (in this case ate a plum, but I hsould have worked out or taken the trash out or something). Anyway, turns out i didn’t need all that – the first alarm, I was ready, so keen was I not to miss my first press screening.
Living in the city centre (edinburgh) I worked out getiting to Fountainpark would take up to an hour, and I wanted to be early anyway, but I ended up leaving before nine, and arriving pretty much by quater past. basically an hour to waste. And I wasted it in a cemetry, saw a grave of someone the same age as me, to the date, got a bit freaked out, went to sit outside the cinema and read my guardian – lovely.

If only then I had attempted the cross word would I have realised – I hadn’t a pen on me. It wasn’t until I was sat, awaiting reviewing (the other two reviewers were discussing a writers stirke or something, I decided not to interject) that I realised I didn’t have a pen on me. Bugger. It wasn’t like I could ask for a pen, like I was in class or something, they both had flashy pens, the ones that are bought not off shelves, in plastic bags and in groups (group noun for pens – pendant? appendage? rubbish. sorry), but were shiney, ink replenished stock that professional scribes use. So I just sat and watched and used me old noggin.

As for the screening itself, it was lovely. No adverts at the beginning, only three people in the cinema, no bullshit; and for free! I know film reviewing isn’t much of a dream, but an achievable occupation that may be. (Not if you , it’s pretty dull.)

In other news, I thought I’d just say a bit about two things that I have been aware of, but finally gave into. The first is
. I know it’s not new, but still. Oh it’s lovely. Not only is it brilliant (that I can get free music legally) but it is so well designed. It’s beautifully simple and beats itunes hands down. And it scrobbles – if they could integrate better, jsut a little rating function, that would be so sweet. And then if they could be streamed directly to an mp3 player via 3g, yes please thanks. I’d even consider buying an iphone if that were a possibility.

In a similar vein,
adult swim is a channel that I’d been aware of, not least because of upcoming news that the mighty boosh will be on there, and that Look Around You had recently been acquired, but a channel I had never come accros. As a keen follower of comedy, it is brimming with cutting edge animation, edgy, new, different comedy, my favourite so far being the astounding Robot Chicken. Quick ten minute episodes that are funny, well made, relevant, and so stupid. They are well made sketches, even if they do occasionaly devolve into violence and or farting. (see celebrity deathmatch for another classic stop motion comedy)
